About Fragment
The aim of Fragment is to digitize and publish on the web the collection of Latin and Old Norse parchment fragments in the Bergen University Library. An important goal is to integrate catalogue data with search possibilities, electronic images and full text transcriptions. Catalogue data will be transcribed from existing handwritten catalogues at the University Library. Both bibliographies and, in some cases, certain philological information about the fragments will be updated and published during this project. The main scholarly contribution to the project is the research conducted on these Latin fragments by doctoral fellow Mrs. Åslaug Ommundsen at the CMS (Center for Medieval Studies). The main financial contribution to this project is also by the CMS. Electronic images are produced by The Special Collections at the Arts Library, Bergen University Library, and by photographer Morten Heiselberg at The Picture Collection, Bergen University Library. The integration of full text transcriptions is going to be done in cooperation with the MENOTA-project (Medieval Nordic Text Archive). Technical development is done by the text technology research department AKSIS/Unifob. From the University Library´s point of view an important aim of MPF is to establish a prototype XML catalogue handling that may be further developed and scaled up, in order to contain larger portions of the library´s manuscript collection. Establishing such a tool will also be in keeping with the Library´s strategy of moving towards a Learning Center model. An important component of a Learning Center is the availability of electronic learning resources. In more than one respect MPF is parallell to the DIPLOM project. Both projects involve several of the same partners. |
